Cannabidiol or CBD has become widespread in use not just in the UK, but in many countries across the world. It has even gone beyond the wellness industry, especially with the approval of its use in several medications used for alleviating the intensity of seizures. Though anything related to cannabis used to be wrapped up in stigma, many of the misconceptions surrounding CBD are falling away, especially given the recent UN resolution classifying the cannabis plant as medicine.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol is a chemical found in cannabis plants, well-known for its calming and soothing effects. It has been known to help with people’s chronic and acute pains, anxiety, insomnia, and so on. Unlike the other main compound, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it has minimal psychoactive effects. As such, it has been legalised in many parts of the world.
As we have mentioned before, CBD most frequently is found in the form of oil. It is also applied topically in creams, balms, and patches. Those who prefer not to apply it topically can ingest it in foods and candies.
The beauty of CBD is that its consumption can be far more interesting than just dribbling oils beneath the tongue. It has become a popular ingredient with the following cocktails and drinks:
1. Berry banana smoothie
Strawberry banana smoothies can be a great dessert or afternoon drink, but it can also be a good breakfast. All it takes is combining all of the following ingredients into a blender until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
These ingredients are:
- 1 ½ cup raspberries
- 1 cup strawberries
- ½ frozen banana
- 1 cup of soy or almond milk
- A handful of basil or mint (optional)
- 15 mg of CBD oil
2. Hot dark chocolate
This drink is perfect for the holiday season, especially on these cold days. With a little bit of CBD, this can be perfect as a nightcap. To make a great dark chocolate mix, prepare the following ingredients:
- 1 cup of milk (soy or almond will do if you want a healthier version)
- 2 ounces of CBD-infused chopped dark chocolate
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 ½ teaspoon of brown sugar or sweetener
- A pinch of cinnamon
- A handful of peppermint leaves (optional)
Hat the milk in a pan over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the sweeteners or sugars and stir until it dissolves. Add the dark chocolate and continue to heat it until it melts. Turn off the heat and add the cinnamon, peppermint, and CBD oils to the mixture. Strain out the mixture and serve in a festive mug.
3. Mojito
A mojito is a perfect cocktail to add CBD oil to, especially since the mint in the drink helps with sleep. Not only that, but it is a favourite among many. Ready these ingredients, and you might have yourself a great serving at your next dinner party:
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tsp of granulated sugar
- A handful of mint leaves
- 60 mL white rum
- Lime-flavoured soda
- Crushed oil
- 15 mg CBD oil
Add the lime juice, mint, and sugar in a mixing jug. Crush the mint leaves with a mortar and pestle, then pour the crushed leaves into a tall glass with crushed ice. Add the CBD oil, then add the rum and lime soda to your taste. Stir or shake—whichever you prefer.
